General guidance based on long-term climate averages and the balloon industry’s main season (April–October). Not a forecast.

Spring (April–June)

Spring is many travellers’ favourite season. Average highs climb from about 16 °C in April to 25 °C in June, the valleys turn green and walking is comfortable all day. Mornings are still chilly, so bring a warm layer for the balloon. May is statistically the wettest month, though showers are usually short.

Summer (July–August)

Expect sunshine, almost no rain and afternoon highs around 29 °C — hot, but dry, without coastal humidity. Nights cool down quickly at this altitude. This is a busy time, so book balloons and popular cave hotels early, and plan walks for early morning or late afternoon.

Autumn (September–October)

Warm days, cooler evenings and golden light make autumn ideal for photography and hiking. The main balloon season winds down at the end of October, but flights continue whenever the weather allows.

Winter (November–March)

Snow on the fairy chimneys is a sight few visitors forget, and hotels are quieter. But January averages just below freezing, roads can be icy, and fog or snow can delay flights at the airport. Balloon cancellations are more frequent, so allow at least two or three mornings. The Cappadocia weather page has the full climate table.
