Driving in Cappadocia
Traffic drives on the right. The main roads between the airport, Nevşehir, Göreme, Ürgüp and Avanos are in good condition and distances are short — Göreme is about 40 km from the terminal. Village centres have narrow, steep lanes and little parking; many cave hotels have only a few spaces, so ask in advance.
In winter, snow and ice are common on the plateau. Ask for winter tyres from December to March and allow extra time in the early morning. At dawn, expect balloon-company vehicles and tour minibuses on the valley roads.
