What to pack
Cappadocia lies more than 900 m above sea level, so the gap between day and night is large. Even in midsummer, a balloon flight at dawn calls for a jacket. In spring and autumn, dress in layers: mornings can be close to freezing while afternoons are pleasantly warm. From December to February, bring proper winter clothing, waterproof shoes and something warm for early starts.
Weather, balloons and flights
Balloon flights need calm air. Each morning a green, yellow or red flag is declared for the flying area; only on green can balloons take off. Winter brings more cancelled mornings, while summer and early autumn are usually the most reliable. Read more on our balloon page.
At the airport, fog and snow can delay or divert flights in winter, mostly early in the day. Check the live flight board on travel days, and see the best time to visit for a seasonal overview.
